Wingspan: a game to become an experienced ornithologist!
Wingspan is a management, collection, and combo game that allows you to play as an ornithologist looking to attract the most beautiful bird specimens to your aviary. Created by Elizabeth Hargrave, it is played by 1-5 players aged 10 and up, with games lasting approximately 1 to 2 hours.
Wingspan: how to play?
The objective in Wingspan is to collect as many points as possible with the birds you attract to your aviary, but also through accomplished objectives, food stored in feeders, and collected bonuses.
In each game turn, you can perform one of the 4 available actions:
Play a new bird in one of the habitats (forest, grassland, or wetland) on your game board, respecting the food it needs (invertebrates, seeds, fish, fruits, or rodents). Once placed, the bird can trigger a combination of actions.
Get Food tokens via custom dice obtained in the Bird Feeder, an ingenious dice tower that determines the available food.
Lay eggs using miniature marbled eggs. Each egg allows you to place Bird cards in the outermost columns, but also scores 1 point at the end of the game.
Expand your bird collection by drawing cards. The more cards you draw, the more options you give yourself to fill your aviary effectively.
The winner is the player who has accumulated the most points at the end of the game!
Wingspan: a strategic bird game with expansions!
Wingspan is a multi-award-winning board game: it won Game of the Year in 2019 (Kennerspiel des Jahres), the Golden Geek 2019 Game of the Year, and the Tric Trac d'Argent 2019. Its author, Elizabeth Hargrave, did a great deal of research, meticulously and carefully illustrated by Beth Sobel. Each Bird card is unique, and there are 170 of them! In addition to effective mechanics brilliantly linked to different bird species, the game offers a complete solo mode based on an Automa (virtual player). The game rules are accessible.
It is the worthy heir of a well-oiled team, that of Stonemaier Games and its famous Scythe and Viticulture! This hand management game is particularly aimed at players who enjoyed titles like Terraforming Mars.
